Lovely, lovely Spugs they must be mine! And they are! Huzzah! Paul at Spriggan Miniatures is a delight to deal with and when I had a problem with one of his Jump Spugs missing a wing he dispatched the missing parts and included one of his new light Spugs to boot.
As always I have replaced the bases they came with my standard display bases I use these days for all figures.
The Spugs come either as two parts or as multi-part casts, typically just the head is seperate but some of them have seperate arms. I had no problems, flash was at a minimum, but it does require a good quality cyno-acetate to stick them together, I found the new GW super-glue ideal whereas my trusted supply bought in the local Model Shop seemed to have issues. Sculpting is nice with lots of detail on faces and abdomens that will just drybrush up.
The limbs are nice and thin and the abdomen sticks out behind in a non-human way. It was this not a man in a suit that appealed to me about them first. The eyes are crying out to be painted as gems.
The Jump Spugs have the heads and wings separate but again easy to stick on. The jump packs themselves are delightful with a slightly retro look to them. Pictures will follow.
The Exo-Suit, or Spugnaught as it is colloquailly known, is a multi-part kit and needs a fair bit of patience. It comes with numerous weapons options and can be posed just as you want.
The Spug Leader has an enlarged head and abdomen. In addition he is armed with a shorter version of the standard Spug sidearm and an Exo-Claw. The figure is nice but the armament does not feel right to me as it suggests he is a close combat monster. I rationalise it by thinking of him as armed with weapons of last, desperate, defence, that is if anyone gets close enough to attack him then the shit really has hit the fan. I do plan to do another one armed only with a computer pad.
The Comms Spug is lovely. Again armed with the cut down weapon and holding what looks like a mobile phone and a backpack.
The Heavy Weapon Trooper Spug is also a good one. He wears some sort of a face mask and has what look like fuel tanks on his back. His weapon is distinctly larger than the standard Spug Side Arm and looks like a flamethrower, chemical sprayer to me.
There are two basic Spug Trooper bodies and only one head but still that allows enough variety for skirmishing. The weapons are nicely done having a slightly blocky organic look to them with a distinctive under arm grip.
Particularly fine these Jump Spugs. They come with helmets or bare heads, I assembled one with no helmet to mark him out as the leader.
The basic Jump Spugs come in just two poses but they are useful ones. What you can't see is the delightful fans buit into the jump packs, note to self do a back shot.
This Spug was bent slightly forward to make him look like he was about to spring into flight.
This is a Spug that officially doesn't exist. Coming out in Spring 2006 the Light Spugs have a different side arm. They will make excellent skirmishing troops or forward explorers for the Hive.
